Synopsis:

Mallory killed her boyfriend, Brian. She can't remember the details of that night but everyone knows it was self-defense, so she isn't charged. But Mallory still feels Brian's presence in her life. Is it all in her head? Or is it something more? In desperate need of a fresh start, Mallory is sent to Monroe, a fancy prep school where no one knows her . . . or anything about her past. But the feeling follows her, as do her secrets. Then, one of her new classmates turns up dead. As suspicion falls on Mallory, she must find a way to remember the details of both deadly nights so she can prove her innocence-to herself and others.

In another riveting tale of life and death, Megan Miranda's masterful storytelling brings readers along for a ride to the edge of sanity and back again.

My rating: ★★★★☆

Great book, great story, great mystery! Have I mentioned how much I love mysteries, 'cause I do!

This book had some psych stuff, which I loved! psychology is just very intriguing to me. Anyway the psych stuff was this...condition I guess you could say, called "hysteria." I totally get why this book is called "Hysteria" now!

I also liked the way the story was told--how we followed Mallory as she was dealing with things post-BF-death. Then we got some flashbacks, not only to the day of "the incident" but also to other relevant scenes before that.

However, the progression of the 1st 60% of the book we just followed Mallory to the boarding school and her dealing with the demons form her past (AKA the dead BF) and the mean from school. So, really, if it wasn't for the blurb (you know, a classmate dying and the blame falling on Mallory) I'd had no idea where the story was supposed to be going! So in a way, it was kinda slow going...and this is the only complaint you get from me, 'cause I loved everything else! The psych stuff, the suspense, and the MYSTERY!

Mallory was great too! Even though she's all traumatized and scared out of her freakin' mind after "the incident," she is such a strong character! And I just couldn't help but sympathize with her...she's really a very likable character, in my opinion. And she is such a great friend, too! I am totally envious of her relationship with Collen! They were more than just BFFs, they were practically sisters! I've always wanted a sister, but no such luck (I've got 3 younger brothers though!)

Collen herself was a great character as well. And Reid...adored him! He was just a really sweet guy!

And the twist at the end, the part where Mallory remembers a vital piece of info from "the incident" that she didn't know her mind had repressed?? OH MY GODS!!

And then the killer of the student and their motive? *jaw drops to the floor* That was just...wow. So unexpected and very surprising (LOVE surprises!)

I can honestly say that I am highly looking forward to picking up another novel by Megan Miranda.

For a girl who prefers series over standalones, I thought this was a great read!
