Synopsis:

Melina has been preparing for a future career as a spy.

She just doesn’t know it.

Legendary spy Evan Roberts always knew that his fifteen-year-old daughter Melina also possessed the absolute lack of fear required of an agent. Without telling her his real profession or his intention, he began to guide her toward an eventual career as a spy. However, Melina’s world is shattered after her mom is involved in an accident that leaves her mysteriously unhurt but unresponsive. Her father’s plans on hold, Melina settles into life at a suburban high school, immersing herself in a world of schoolwork, her friends and a budding romance with Alex, the cute new guy in her class.

When Melina and her father uncover shocking new information about her mother’s accident, Melina is pulled deep into her father’s shadowy world. With Alex desperately trying to find her and only hours to go before it will be too late to save her mother, Melina and her father work together using their combined skills to find a way to reach her.

My rating: ★★★☆☆

I found the concept of The Agent's Daughter very intriguing... I've always liked this adventurous spy stuff, so I couldn't wait to read it!

One by one the students of Saint Opportuna High start having nightmares, and sleepwalking. And the next morning one of their classmates turns up dead.

My rating: ★★★☆☆

I love horror novels, and I thought this one was a pretty okay one. In my opinion, however, it was not as frightening as I thought it would be.

eve hallows shiversBlurb:

So far, Eve's summer vacation has been uneventful, but when her grandparents—traveling all the way from the monster world known as Gravesville—appear at her doorstep, she learns that the URNS Director has gone missing. Worse, a new director, bent on destroying humans, has taken over URNS.

Eve and her family are no longer safe in the human world, and as they race to escape this new threat, Eve stumbles into a trap, which forces her back to Gravesville along with her family and friends. But once there, everything goes adorably wrong, and her best chance to get out of this mess is to seek out The Book of Shivers and the elusive author Sedrick Creach—the only creature who knows the secrets of the Nightmare Books. Unfortunately for Eve, searching for Sedrick and the next book in the series will reveal uncomfortable details about her own murky past.

Once again, Eve and her friends find themselves on an incredible adventure—one that involves underground battles with bloodthirsty creatures, a lightning-fueled train, and some unexpected new allies.

Hilarious and bone-chilling, this third book continues the story of an unlikely hero trying to save not one, but two worlds... This time around, though, Eve's not sure she can even save herself.

Synopsis:

From debut author Cassie Alexander comes a spectacular new urban fantasy series where working the nightshift can be a real nightmare. Nothing compares to being Nightshifted.

Nursing school prepared Edie Spence for a lot of things. Burn victims? No problem. Severed limbs? Piece of cake. Vampires? No way in hell. But as the newest nurse on Y4, the secret ward hidden in the bowels of County Hospital, Edie has her hands full with every paranormal patient you can imagine—from vamps and were-things to zombies and beyond…

Edie’s just trying to learn the ropes so she can get through her latest shift unscathed. But when a vampire servant turns to dust under her watch, all hell breaks loose. Now she’s haunted by the man’s dying words—Save Anna—and before she knows it, she’s on a mission to rescue some poor girl from the undead. Which involves crashing a vampire den, falling for a zombie, and fighting for her soul. Grey’s Anatomy was never like this...

My rating: ★★★☆☆

Edie is a nurse who works the night shift at a hospital. But the floor she works on isn't like any other... "normal" you've seen. The patients on Y4 aren't human! They're an assortment of vampires, shape shifters, zombies, and any other paranormal creature you can think of! That's right, apparently even these guys need medical attention.

Synopsis:

True love—and world war—is at stake in the conclusion to The Pledge trilogy, a dark and romantic blend of dystopia and fantasy.

Charlie, otherwise known as Queen Charlaina of Ludania, has become comfortable as a leader and a ruler. She’s done admirable work to restore Ludania’s broken communications systems with other Queendoms, and she’s mastered the art of ignoring Sabara, the evil former queen whose Essence is alive within Charlie. Or so she thinks.

When the negotiation of a peace agreement with the Queendom of Astonia goes awry, Charlie receives a brutal message that threatens Ludania, and it seems her only option is to sacrifice herself in exchange for Ludanian freedom.

But things aren’t always as they seem. Charlie is walking into a trap—one set by Sabara, who is determined to reclaim the Queendoms at any cost.

My rating: ★★★★★

It's over! I cannot believe it! But I am happy because The Offering had the most perfect ending ever! :D

So, after the crazy happenings in The Essence, the Queen of Astonia and Charlie, Queen of Ludania, work to come to a peace agreement between the two countries. But Queen Elena plays dirty and sends Charlie a threatening message that puts those she loves (and her country) in danger. Charlie decides that in order to save her Queendom she must give herself up to Queen Elena. Only things aren't what they seem and Charlie finds herself in the most difficult position imaginable: surrender to Queen Elena the one thing Charlie is unwilling to give up, or lose those she cares for.

Synopsis:

At the luminous conclusion of The Pledge, Charlaina defeated the tyrant Sabara and took her place as Queen of Ludania. But Charlie knows that Sabara has not disappeared: The evil queen’s Essence is fused to Charlie’s psyche, ready to arise at the first sign of weakness.

Charlie is not weak, but she’s being pushed to the brink. In addition to suppressing the ever-present influence of Sabara, she’s busy being queen—and battling a growing resistance determined to return Ludania to its discriminatory caste system. Charlie wants to be the same girl Max loves, who Brook trusts, but she’s Your Majesty now, and she feels torn in two.

As Charlie journeys to an annual summit to meet with leaders of nearby Queendoms—an event where her ability to understand all languages will be the utmost asset—she is faced with the ultimate betrayal. And the only person she can turn to for help is the evil soul residing within.

My rating: ★★★★☆

In The Essence, we have the new Queen of Ludania, Charlie, getting ready to go to the Summit to meet the other Queens and maybe establish a relationship with them that will help her country move forward and improve after Sabara's tyrannical rule.

Genre: YA, dystopian

Synopsis:

In the violent country of Ludania, the classes are strictly divided by the language they speak. The smallest transgression, like looking a member of a higher class in the eye while they are speaking their native tongue, results in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina has always been able to understand the languages of all classes, and she's spent her life trying to hide her secret. The only place she can really be free is the drug-fueled underground clubs where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in. It's there that she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy named Max who speaks a language she's never heard before . . . and her secret is almost exposed.

Charlie is intensely attracted to Max, even though she can't be sure where his real loyalties lie. As the emergency drills give way to real crisis and the violence escalates, it becomes clear that Charlie is the key to something much bigger: her country's only chance for freedom from the terrible power of a deadly regime.

I love Kimberly Derting and her Body Finder series, so I was very excited to start this one! And just like The Body Finder, The Pledge was another original story you cant help but get sucked into!

For all of us fans of series that we still need to finish or get up to date with! ...A series is considered complete in one of two ways: either as finishing all the books that you own in the series or as obtaining and reading all the books that have been published in the series to date ... FYI, reading novellas and short stories from a series does count here--if you want it to!... The challenge is divided into 3 different categories which I really like! But I'm gonna start low and work my way up.

Series started before 2014: series that you have started reading before Jan. 2014 and that you still have unread books to get current in (or finish) the series.
My goal: Semi-Serious: 1-6 series
  1. Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan
  2. Scorch (Croak #2) by Gina Damico
  3. Avalon by Mindee Arnett
  4. Trouble's Brewing (Stirring Up Trouble Trilogy #2) by Juli Alexander

  6. Falling Angels Saga by E. Van Lowe
  7. Stone of Destiny (The Danaan Trilogy #2) by Laura Howard
  8. Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter by Nikki Jefford
  9. Divided (Dualed #2) by Elsie Chapman
  10. Wickedpedia (Point Horror) by Chris Van Etten
  11. Get Lost, Odysseus! (Myth-O-Mania #10) by Kate McMullan
  12. Paranoia (The Night Walkers #2) by J.R. Johansson
  13. My Tethered Soul (Reaper's Rite #2) by Dorothy Dreyer
  14. Party Games (Fear Street) by R.L. Stine
  15. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Demigod Files by Rick Riordan
  16. Silent Night (Fear Street) by R.L. Stine

Series started in 2014: any series that you start reading between Jan. and Dec. 2014, and the second book in the series must be published before December 2014.
      My goal: Semi-Serious: 1-6 series
      1. Demon Princess series by Michelle Rowen
      2. The Charm (Olivia Hart and the Gifted Program #1) by Alana Siegel
      3. MILA 2.0 series by Debra Driza
      4. Remnants of the Damned (Abyssal Sanctuary #1) by Gavin Hetherington
      5. Investigating the Hottie series by Juli Alexander
      6. Gypsy (The Cavy Files #1) by Trisha Leigh
      7. Darkness Watching (Darkworld #1) by Emma L. Adams
      8. Slug Pie Stories by Mick Bogerman
        1. How to Navigate Zombie Cave and Defeat Pirate Pete (Book #1)
        2. How to Rid Your Swimming Pool of a Bloodthirsty Mermaid (Book #2)
        3. How to Destroy the New Girl's Killer Robot Army (Book #3)
      9. Become (Desolation #1) by Ali Cross
      10. Don't Expect Magic (Magic #1) by Kathy McCullough
      11. Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper by J.L. Bryan
        1. Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper (Book #1)
        2. Cold Shadows (Book #2)
      12. Strange Angels by Lili St. Crow
      13. Fate's Exchange (Twisted Fate #1) by Sasha Leigh
      14. The Summer of Shambles (Ondine #1) by Ebony McKenna
      15. Undead by Kirsty McKay

Series reread: books that are part of a series that were read before Jan. 2014 and that are reread between Jan. 2014 and Dec. 2014. A series reread does NOT have to include the full series.
              My goal: Semi-Serious: 1-6 series
              1. My Fair Godmother series by Janette Rallison
              2. The Nightmare Affair (The Arkwell Academy #1) by Mindee Arnett

...Let’s be honest here, we all have those books we’ve received for review (whether requested or not!), but we just haven’t gotten to them yet. Or maybe we went a little crazy with the ‘request’ buttons on NetGalley or Edelweiss, and we need to catch up. That’s what this challenge is for ... to help clear up books you’ve received for review. Any format, or any length, as long as you received the book specifically for review, is allowed... This is the most perfect challenge EVER! I SO need this one!

                My goal: Master: 21-30 books
                1. Avalon by Mindee Arnett
                2. The Agent's Daughter by Ron Corriveau
                3. Killer Frost (Mythos Academy #6) by Jennifer Estep
                4. The Charm (Olivia Hart and the Gifted Program #1) by Alana Siegel
                5. Falling (Falling Angels #4) by E. Van Lowe
